Wheat Order and Class

GROUP WHEAT ORDER INFO:

Wheat prices are low right now! I am afraid costs will go back up with summer gas prices, so let’s take advantage! We can get wheat for dirt cheap through West Mountain Wheat Company if we order as a group.

Prices are as follows (tax included):

$12 for a 40# bucket

$10 for a 50# bag

This company is owned by Grant Evans and Rock Permann. They are willing to beat every other price in town (for our wards) AND they have seen with their own eyeballs the growing, harvesting, cleaning, and packaging of thiswheat. It’s great wheat and we use it everyday. No obligation to buy from here or anywhere (maybe you already have 20 buckets you inherited from your grandmother! Lucky you!). The goal is simply to get wheat in your home and then learn how to use it!

Costco $15 for a 45# bucket

Walmart $15.22 for a 45# bucket, $13 for a 25# bag

Maceys (case lot prices through April 24) $13 for a 45# bucket, $13 for a 50# bag

LDS Cannery red wheat $12.70 for a 50# bag, white wheat $11.60 for a 50# bag

Quick Facts: Hard white and hard red have basically the same nutritional value, red wheat is just darker in color and tastes a little heartier. Hard white wheat or hard red wheat are used for making bread items. Soft white wheat is used for pastries, cakes and cookies but doesn’t store as long as hard wheat. Don’t store it unless you are going to use it.)

Question: How much wheat does my family need?

Answer: Every person needs 300 lbs of grain per year (http://providentliving.org/content/display/0,11666,7531-1-4062-1,00.html) This includes wheat, rice, oats, and corn (and other grains like barley, spelt, quinoa, etc.) You decide which grains you want to store. Only wheat? 100 lbs wheat, 100 lbs rice, and 100 lbs barley? 250 lbs oats and a 50 lbs corn? You decide! Remember that the wheat in this order comes in 40 lb buckets or 50 lb bags. And remember that you don’t need to get it all at once. The goal is just to get some from somewhere and then later get some more

Pick Up Day: Wednesday, April 21 (all day)

If you are coming to the class, you can grab your wheat then.

If you are not coming to the class, just pick it up anytime that day.

Class Description: Back by popular demand, it’s our ward wheat class! Do you have some wheat sitting lonely in your pantry? It’s time to learn how to use it! We will go over SIMPLE and DELICIOUS ways to use wheat in your everyday cooking, as well as demonstrate several ways to grind it. We will also have food samples to try and recipes to take home, including different types of wheat bread, wheat waffles, wheat blender pancakes, wheat muffins, wheat cereal, wheat cinnamon rolls, and wheat cookies (to die for!). Don’t miss out on the fun!

Humanitarian Quilts

Come and help tie quilts on Thursday, February 11th at 6:30pm at the church in the cultural hall. We would like to try and complete 3 – 90 x90 quilts. Even if you have never tied a quilt before, come and help and we will teach you how. Come and socialize with the neighborhood while helping those in need.

Come Can Ground Beef!

Hi all,

Ground beef is on sale now for $1.50/lb., so I’m offering a class on Friday, January 8th, at 10 AM on how to can it in a pressure canner. If you’d like to come, contact me, Lindsay Ebert, at 801-717-8512. I need your RSVP so that I can have enough meat and jars for everyone. I will calculate how much each jar costs so that you don’t have to worry about bringing your own stuff. If you would prefer to, that’s fine, but still let me know if you’re coming.

Canned ground beef is a wonderful thing to have in your food storage–it is fully cooked and heats up very quickly if you’re cooking on emergency fuel. It tastes very similar to regular ground beef–my family can’t even tell when I’m using it (especially in things like tacos or sloppy joes).

Meat Canning

To anyone who’s interested–I’m willing to teach impromptu classes on meat canning to anyone who finds a good deal on meat and brings their own jars. It’s hard to set up a real class to do this because it’s hard to know far enough in advance when meat will go on sale. I’m available most days but Thursday.

Pajama pants

Just in time for Christmas, Pajama pant class.

Tuesday, Dec 1st from 1-4 pm and from 6:30 to 9 pm at Shirley Lyman’s you can come and cut out the pajama pants. Let me know what time you can come by making a comment so that we will have an idea of how many.

Thursday, Dec 3rd at the church at 7 pm we will be sewing the pajama pants. Please only plan on making one pair that night, we will help you with patterns so you can make more on your own.

Fabric that is suitable for making the pajama pants are cotton, flannel, chambray, lightweight poplin.You will need 2 to 3 yards of fabric depending on the size(adult). Prewash to preshrink the fabric or make them extra long to allow for shrinkage when washed.

You will also need elastic 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch or 1 inch depending on width of casing you like and then thread to match fabric and sewing machine. if you need to borrow a sewing machine please let me know.

Sewing Group – Baby Car Carrier Covers

Class will be Wednesday, October 14th at 10 am or 6:30 pm at Jennifer James’ home.

The first pictures are of the Fleece Car Seat Cover . The material list is as follows:

You will need:
1 1/8 yd fleece
one package extra wide double fold bias tape
16” zipper (optional)
1 yd 3/8” elastic
thread to match bias tape

*If you don’t use the zipper, you’ll just have to pop your whole cover
onto the carrier each time you use it. Don’t be afraid of the zipper,
though. It’s really easy and Shirley and I will be there to help.

Ways to save money:
*Cute fleece is on sale for 50% off at Joann’s through Oct. 3rd.
*You really do need 1 1/8 yards of fleece, but this will leave you with a
lot left over. You can get two covers out of 1 ½ yards of fleece, so you
may want to buy your material with a friend and split the cost. Two
people can also share one package of bias tape.
*Elastic is .49/yd if you buy it by the yard.

The second set of pictures are of the Car Seat Tent Cover. Material list for this one is as follows:

1 1/8 yd top material
1 yd lining material
thread
4- 1” or larger buttons (optional – you can use my velcro instead)

If possible, bring your car seat for best strap
placement. Pre-wash if possible.

Super Saturday

Super Saturday will be held on Saturday, November 7th from 10 am to 2 pm. at the church. All money (cash or check) must be submitted to Kristine Hanks by October 22nd for your kit to be ordered. Money for the placemat totes and Table topper need to be turned into Shirley Lyman by October 22nd so materials can be purchased. Everything needs to be prepaid for a kit to be available for you on Saturday. Please talk to Kristine or Shirley if you have any questions at all. Spanish Fields Venture Triathlon

The Venture Crews in the Spanish Fields subdivision held a community Triathlon on Saturday, 12 September 2009. It started with a 300 m swim, an 8 mile bike ride, and a 2 mile run. The swim started at the Spanish Fork Swimming Pool and ended at the Spanish Fork High School the football field running around the Track.
